Mason received his undergraduate art degree at Stanford University in California. After graduation, he moved to Boston and soon to Martha’s Vineyard where he worked as a commercial fisherman for the better part of 19 years, making art in the off-seasons.

In 1987, Mason moved to Prescott to devote himself to his art. To support himself, he started teaching and recently obtained a Masters in Educational Leadership at Northern Arizona University. He has exhibited often, both locally and nationally, and is currently the supervisor of Two-Dimensional Fine Arts at Yavapai College where he teaches drawing, painting, and printmaking.
